THANK YOU KATZENTISCH FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE DINNER!

By Ariane Tavakol - DOL - 12.08.2015 01:16 pm - News & Events

Ariane from DOL , a great lifestyle blogger in Zurich tried out a very special Katzentisch, our Pop up event at Villa Hamol at Zurich lake.

Here's what she had to say.

"Last Friday, I was one of the few lucky ones to experience the most unique dinner organized by Katzentisch. It was a Pop-Up unlike any other, starting with the initial contact to the conclusion of the evening.

Because of the exclusive nature of the location, there were only a few tables available and they sold out within seconds of being published online! So imagine my excitement and pride when I was told I had a spot!

Villa Hamol am See was originally a sun cream factory from the beginning of the 20th century, is now home to an entrepreneur who also uses the premise as his office. He kept the villa’s special and industrial charm, making it ideal for events like this one.

Vegetarian and Vegan: Our top 5 for Zürich

By Katzentisch - 06.08.2015 02:03 pm - Gastro-Trends

Considering Switzerland’s most famous culinary export– fondue– is essentially a melting pot for all things dairy, and that the country is perhaps Western Europe’s most beloved destination for mountain hunters, one might be surprised to learn that vegetarian and vegan cuisine has been taking off in the country’s capital of late. For a city of its size, Zurich’s wealth of vegetarian and vegan establishments is remarkable.

Too often, non-vegetarians are turned off by the prospect of eating vegetarian or vegan, their reluctance founded on the flawed idea that vegetarian food is boring. What follows is a short guide to some of the city’s numerous vegetarian, vegan, and vege-friendly places capable of changing such people’s minds.

Elle 'n' Belle

A breath of fresh air in Zurich since having opened in September of 2014, Elle & Belle’s rock’n’roll vegan diner is the kind of place one might expect to pop up in Berlin or San Franciso, rather than the comparatively conservative Swiss banking hub. Owned and operated by the two sisters after whom the restaurant takes its name, Elle & Belle is staffed by enthusiastic, personable and knowledgeable lads and ladies, whose love of the venue's two central ideals– vegan food and rock’n’roll– shines blindingly through. Although the menu is relatively limited, with only six or seven options each for starters and mains, the food is fantastic. That is, 'fantastic' without the expected caveat: ‘for vegan food’. Instead, simply fantastic. Period. For instance: sautéed asparagus with wild garlic aioli, served on kohlrabi and fennel carpaccio with a pomegranate dressing? Well? Thought so.
